Embassy Row Streetscape Design in Washington, DC | Massachusetts Avenue NW Roadway Rehabilitation

Precision Systems, Inc. (PSI) led the design for the $18 million roadway rehabilitation of Massachusetts Avenue NW in Washington, DC, spanning 0.8 miles from Waterside Drive to 20th Street NW. This section, famously known as Embassy Row, required a context-sensitive and historically respectful approach due to its designation as a protected historic district, its high-volume traffic, and its appeal to tourists and international visitors.
To enhance roadway safety and maintain the architectural character of this iconic corridor, PSI redesigned roadway geometry and proposed comprehensive upgrades, including:
- Modernized street lighting
- Traffic signal improvements
- Enhanced sidewalks and landscaping
- Green infrastructure (GI) features
- Streetscape elements tailored to the historic and diplomatic setting
By balancing modern infrastructure needs with historic preservation, PSI delivered a full-scale design solution that improves multimodal transportation, aesthetic cohesion, and public safety along one of Washington, DC’s most prominent corridors.
