14th Street NW Streetscape & Safety Improvements | Corridor Rehabilitation from Thomas Circle to Florida Avenue

To enhance safety, accessibility, and livability along the historic 14th Street NW corridor in Washington, DC, PSI delivered comprehensive, context-sensitive roadway design services from Thomas Circle to Florida Avenue. This urban corridor rehabilitation included improvements to traffic flow, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, and sustainable streetscape design.
PSI’s innovative design reduced the existing roadway width to include four travel lanes, dedicated bicycle lanes, and expanded parking lanes, improving multimodal safety and traffic efficiency. The project integrated advanced traffic signal systems, modern street lighting, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) for enhanced urban mobility.
To promote green infrastructure and meet project sustainability goals, PSI incorporated permeable pavers, bioretention planter boxes, planting strips, and shade trees throughout the corridor. These features help manage stormwater runoff and contribute to a more resilient urban ecosystem. The design also preserved essential curbside access for commercial loading zones and metered parking, supporting both business and community needs.
