Role

To support the District Department of Transportation’s (DDOT) Vision Zero initiative, Precision Systems, Inc. (PSI) developed an award-winning Traffic Safety Investigation (TSI) Prioritization Model to manage over 1,000 TSI requests across Washington, DC.

This innovative tool enables data-driven prioritization by evaluating each request against critical factors such as crash history, pedestrian exposure, roadway characteristics, Equity Emphasis Areas, and the High Injury Network. PSI’s model assigns higher priority to locations involving non-motorist crashes and proximity to pedestrian trip generators, ensuring limited resources are focused where they’re needed most.

Recognized with a 2024 National ACEC Award, this model advances equitable, evidence-based safety improvements, helping DDOT proactively reduce traffic injuries and fatalities in high-risk neighborhoods.
