Role

As part of the I-95 Express Lanes expansion in Prince William County, Virginia, the Opitz Boulevard Ramp enhances traffic capacity, safety, and travel time reliability along one of the nation's most congested corridors. With construction occurring in active traffic conditions, PSI personnel delivered critical traffic engineering and field support to ensure safe, efficient operations.

PSI reviewed project specifications, evaluated temporary traffic control plans, and ensured compliance with VDOT standards, managing complex elements such as lane shifts, phased ramp openings, and interchange improvements. The larger project scope included modifications to 13+ bridges and the construction of 6 new bridges, requiring carefully staged work to avoid disruptions.

On-site, PSI coordinated with inspectors, maintained detailed construction records—including daily logs, test reports, follow-ups, and Nonconformance Reports (NCRs)—and collaborated with contractors to resolve issues and maintain conformance. PSI’s integrated support helped deliver a safer, more reliable I-95 corridor for both regional commuters and interstate travelers.
